Kent State University Welcomes You To Its Annual Celebration of Flight
September 11th, 2010
Kent State University's Aeronautics Program, together with the Stow-Munroe Falls Kiwanis Club, will host its annual aviation fair on Saturday, September 11th, 2010 from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.
A favorite Northeast Ohio summer event, the Aviation Heritage Fair features activities for both the flight enthusiast and casual fan. Highlights include airplane rides, airport flyovers and aircraft displays, featuring both civilian and military planes and helicopters. This year, we are excited to host the Kent State alumni band FenderJet as well as the Beatles tribute band Abbey Road. A children’s tent with arts and crafts activities for young families is presented by Kiwanis.
One of the best parts of the fair is the opportunity to get intimate views of both vintage and contemporary aircraft. This year’s displays include several World War II aircraft to include a B-25 Yankee Warrior and the Commemorative Air Force's SNJ-4. Also present will be a helicopter simulator for the public to try.
An airport flyover will take place between 1:00 and 1:30 pm and feature a C-130 from the 910 AW in Youngstown, OH. In honor of September 11th and all American heros and their families who have sacrificed in supprt of the war on terror, the Heritage Fair will also feature a skydivng event and a section takeoff and missing man formation fly over. The missing man fly fver will occur at 4 pm to honor all fallen heros. We want to be sure that those who live and work near and around the airport know about these activities as we don’t want to cause concern for our community members.
The 2010 Aviation Heritage Fair officially begins at 7 a.m. with a hot air balloon launch. That will be immediately followed by the pancake breakfast hosted by the Stow-Munroe Falls Kiwanis Club. Breakfast tickets are $6 per person. The Kiwanis Club also will participate in the awarding of its annual aviation scholarship, which will be presented at 12:15 pm by Stow-Munroe Falls Kiwanis Club President with help from Kent State's President Lester A. Lefton and the Interim Dean of the College of Technology, Dr. Donald Bubenzer.
Event admission and parking are free. Airplane rides are $30 per person or $75 for three people. Those interested in rides must register at the sign-up tent upon arrival. Carnival food and beverages will be available for sale throughout the day.
The fair will take place rain or shine, although some events are subject to change due to inclement weather.
